Meet the Team
Although there are usually only a couple of us in the store we have an awesome ( and surprisingly large) team of staff. Learn a little more about our team on this page.
Patrick(Paddy) Humenny
Owner, Manager, DirtBag, Bringer of stoke.
Paddy purchased the store in 2016 having worked for years in the bike & ski industry. Since then the store has doubled in size due to his enthusiasm.
Paddy has a history in long distance endurance racing.
Initially in 24 hour solo mountain bike and gravel races, after a victorious 2012 24hr National Championship in Canmore, Paddy made the switch to Trail-running in 2013. Years of enjoyment running ultras all over the PNW, Paddy got the opportunity to race in the 2022 edition of the iconic Western States 100 mile foot race earning a silver buckle.
Paddy is a lover of all Outdoor Activities and a huge supporter of community events and groups.
Jasper & Willow
Paddy's fur kids, Jasper is the CEO and Willow is her apprentice.
Jasper's adventure days are well behind her, but Willow will often be found running with Paddy, she's extra cute wrapped up in jacket and boots in winter.
James Miles
James came to Kimberley for the 18/19 winter ski season and never left. He started casually in the store at the end of his first summer here, and over the previous 4 years has become more of a presence in the store.
James caught the Ultra Running bug early in his time here and recently finished the iconic UTMB 100 mile race in Chamonix, France.
When he's not running James is a keen Splitboarder / Ski Tourer and occasional Mountain Bike Rider. Always happy to talk training, races and adventures.
Chris Ferguson
Ferg is an avid backcountry adventurer and explorer, whether climbing first ascents in the Kootenays, completing multi-day ridge traverses in the St. Mary basin or bike-packing new routes in Labrador. He would love to hear about your next mission and discuss how the gear at Purcell could come in handy with your success.
Aidan Mckenna
Aidan works part time both here and at Bootleg Bike Co. in part to support his self-described gear habit. He works as a mechanical engineer in town for his day job.
If it’s active and outdoors, Aidan has probably done it or is currently contemplating doing it. He also volunteers with Kimberley Search and Rescue and Kimberley Volunteer Ski Patrol.
If you’re ever in the shop, Aidan is always happy to chat about your favourite bit of gear or latest adventure regardless how big or small!
Kira Bateman
Kira is Kimberley's newest official resident after years living as a bonafide nomad, bouncing throughout BC and Alberta in various aspects of the tourism industry. Her background revolves around environmental stewardship, responsible outdoor recreation, and regenerative tourism. Teaching Leave No Trace Awareness courses to new outdoor explorers is one of her latest passion projects. In winter, Kira gets her fresh air through downhill, cross-country and expert-beginner level touring, and in summer is obsessively planning long distance backpacking trips, mountain bike days, and the next mountain to scramble. She looks forward to spending time in the store talking all things adventures, trip-planning, and wilderness glam!
Mat Rigden
Rigden or Rigs comes in and helps out during the winter months. He has a strong passion towards endurance sports, focusing mainly on Ironman Triathlon but more recently breaking into the ultra marathon game with goals in the near future of completing 100km events. Mat spends the majority of his time either running around the Kimberley Nature Park with his 2 dogs and partner or biking on the roads and highways for hours on end.
In the summer Mat focuses his endurance towards fighting wildfires all across BC, living out of a tent and is constantly stained in ash. At Purcell, Mat is always happy to talk shop about anything from running gear to camping equipment, or where ever the conversation goes, with his sidekick Ivy not far from his side.
